Description
Previous landlord sold property; tenants were informed that they did not have to move because of this.
New landlord takes ownership, and upon meeting them serves them an N12 form, stating his disabled, elderly father who lived over an hour away was going to live in the upstairs unit. At the time, there was a vacant unit downstairs.
Landlord gave tenants proper notice and compensation, and 3 months later moved out. Not even a week later, this unit was up for rent for $100 more on Kijiji. Upon inspection it was clear the landlord's father was not moving in and never had the intention to. Later that month, a new tenant was living there.
The victims went to the LTB and were granted monies for the difference in rent at their new place. Unlikely this landlord has learned from his mistakes based on his behaviour.
