Description
Lived in the top floor of this address for a decade. My rent at the time of eviction was $1055. In July 2018, my landlord called to say that he & his wife were getting divorced and I would have to leave so that she could move into my apartment. I heard nothing for two weeks, then received an impromptu visit from my landlord confirming this, although he now stated that he would be the one moving in. Weeks passed without me receiving an N12 or any written eviction notice. Then in late August 2018 my landlord called to ask me when I'd be moving out and I told him I would once I'd received an N12. He was furious, claiming that I had "broken our gentlemen's agreement" to move out with no written notice or compensation of any kind. I then made a formal, written offer to purchase the property, which he immediately declined and then instructed me to communicate exclusively through the lawyer he had just hired about my eviction. The lawyer threatened to sue me for "damages," but I stayed firm and demanded the landlord abide by the law. I soon received my N12 and compensation as per the law and moved out on December 1, 2018.
