We were served an N12 at the end of September 2019. The landlord said his son was moving to Ottawa for work and "needed the unit urgently".
This happened a couple of months after we pushed back against an illegal rent increase (above the regulated limit for 2019) and so we suspected this was his way of obtaining new tenants and charging higher rent.
We bought a house and moved out before we got the chance to challenge the eviction with the Landlord and Tenant Board (hearing was scheduled for January).
Sure enough, the apartment was listed on Kijiji in December 2019 (less than a month after we moved out) for $700 more a month than what we had been paying.
